With beaches to visit, castles and historic buildings to explore, coastal villages and market towns to wander through and views to admire from the coast to the Cheviots.

From the cottages, it is only a short (10-15minute) walk down a tarmac lane to two very special beaches; Howdiemont Bay and Sugar Sands. You walk past the traditional, well kept farm buildings and down a hedge lined lane. Alongside are fields of wheat, barley, cattle and sheep.

When you get to the coast you have access to the coastal path. North to Howick, Craster, Embleton, onwards. South to Boulmer, Alnmouth , Warkwarth and beyond.

The village of Longhoughton is a short (10-15 minute) walk away. There you will find a shop (with cashpoint), bakery, cafe, church and access to the local bus service.

Apart from the wonderful beaches on the doorstep there are lots of places to visit locally. Within a ten minute drive you can visit Howick Hall and Gardens, Alnwick Castle, Alnwick Gardens, Barter Books, the Bailiffgate museum and the picturesque coastal villages of Craster ( home of the world famous Craster Kipper), and Alnmouth.

The perfect base for touring the county, a short trip will take you to any of these other attractions:

Bamburgh Castle, Dunstanburgh Castle, Warkworth Castle, Cragside, Northumberland National Park, Wallington,  or Holy Island, also known as Lindisfarne.

There are the market towns of Alnwick, Wooler, Rothbury and Berwick-upon-Tweed. Visit fishing villages such as Seahouses (enjoy the fish & chips), Amble and Beadnell.

Day trip options might include catching the train at Alnmouth station (10 minutes drive) where it is a 20 minute journey to Newcastle or one hour to Edinburgh. Alternatively, driving over to Hadrian’s Wall or up to the Scottish Borders make a good day out.
